We started our day in Gamla Stan, which is their old town. The architecture is beautiful and it’s easy to spend an entire day there. We stumbled upon Stortorget, which is the town square with the colorful buildings. It was packed with tourist and performers.

Next, we visited Mårten Trotzig, which is the narrowest alley in the city at just 35in wide.

Next, we made our way to the Royal Palace. It was close to noon and there was a huge crowd forming, so we figured we’d catch the changing of the guard. The entire procession lasted close to 45 minutes an it was complete with a full marching. Definitely a cool experience, but it dragged on a tad bit. After leaving the Palace, we walked around Gamla Stan a bit more and eventually made our way to Gustav Adolfs Torg. There was a nearby marathon going on in the city, so this area was very lively with bands, food vendors and spectators. We relaxed a bit and took photos before deciding to search for authentic Swedish meatballs. Eventually, we found Operakällaren, a tiny restaurant in the area. The meatballs were fantastic and so were the other dishes that we tried. After lunch, we sat down at Strömgatan along Lilla Värtan (the strait surrounding Stockholm) and had some wine and took in the scenery.

We made our way back to our Airbnb apartment in Älta and relaxed a bit before heading to Strålsjön Lake. This was the perfect way to end our trip.

Stockholm is an awesome city with some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met in my travels. The architecture is stunning and there is so much to see and do there. I’d definitely return.
