Found a great deal for one night at a hotel in Toronto (actually Markham) so we decided to make a quick weekend trip.
Day 1
- Niagara Falls
- Spencer Smith Park
- Ontario Science Centre
- Bombay Bhel Restaurant
Left early on a Saturday and drove from Cleveland to Niagara Falls (about 3.5 hours). We didn’t stay very long and viewed from the Canadian side, but our boys really liked it and it was a perfect way to break up the drive. We then stopped at Spencer Smith Park in Burlington, Ontario so the kids could run around a bit. It’s almost exactly halfway from Niagara to Toronto, about 45 minutes each leg, and we ended up spending more time here than we thought we would. Pleasantly surprised by how much our entire family enjoyed this park – lots of families and dogs, just a great place to spend a day on the shore of Lake Ontario. One of the highlights of the trip.
Continued to Toronto (Ontario, Canada) and stopped at Adonis in Missisauga because we were craving some good food. This is a Mediterranean grocery store that sells hot food – got the chicken schwarma, falafel, tabbouleh and rice, which was all excellent. Continued on to Toronto and went to the Science Center, then had dinner at Bombay Bhel.
Day 2
- CN Tower
- Rogers Centre
- Chinatown
- Distillery District
Walked around the CN Tower and Rogers Centre and went in to Honest Ed’s. This is a huge discount store that’s pretty famous in Toronto but has since closed. Then we went through Chinatown and the Distillery District, stopping at a beer hall for drinks and schnitzel before driving back to Cleveland (allow about 5 hours).
This was a great, quick trip that’s easy and cheap to do on a weekend as a family. Being able to see a natural wonder, enjoy a beautiful park, and tour a city all in one trip made it very enjoyable.
