- Table Rock Mountain
- Spence Ridge Trailhead
- Moondog Pizza
Started the day in Hickory, North Carolina and drove about an hour and a half drive to the Table Rock Summit. The last 30 minutes or so are very, very slow. Rough road, lots of navigating around holes and washouts. There’s ample parking at the top and very short path to the summit (1 mile RT). We took some pictures from the top and then hiked down to the Linville River on an unnamed trail. We spent some time at the water and took the Spence Ridge Trail back up to where it intersects with the Table Rock trail, and back to our car. Good amount of elevation gain, around 2,500 feet, and about 8 miles total.
Drove down the mountain to Moondog Pizza, and that is the perfect meal after a long day of hiking. Gigantic, excellent pizza. Want to go back for that just as much as the hiking.
We were there in mid-October and expected some great colors, but everything was still green. Just happened to be a late year. Some other hikes that we’d like to do in the area are Hawksbill and Shortoff.
