My husband and I went to Amelia Island, Florida for our first wedding anniversary. To be honest, we had airline vouchers to use, and of the “warm weather locations” it was cheapest to fly to Jacksonville so that’s how we made our decision. What a great decision it was! Amelia Island is beautiful.
We rented a car which was a good idea for the ground we wanted to cover and for convenience.
Day 1
Our first hotel in Amelia Island was the Addison on Amelia. A beautiful bed and breakfast. Best banana pancakes! We had dinner at a delicious French restaurant, Le Clos, on our first night. Everything is so walkable in the downtown area, so that was a plus.
Day 2
- Downtown historic district
- Amelia Island River cruise
- Fort Clinch
- Carriage Ride
The downtown historic district is very quaint to walk around. Spent the morning meandering about! The Amelia Island River cruise was a great way to see Cumberland Island, with the wild horses and wild pigs. Also a great view of the house in the Pippi Longstocking movie. Fort Clinch was our next stop, and was nice. Espana restaurant for dinner was a stellar choice for excellent sangria and paella. Since we were celebrating our anniversary a local bakery, Patty Cakes, made a replica of our wedding cake. Not sure if they are still in business though.
Day 3
We switched hotels to be closer to the beach and stayed at the Elizabeth Pointe Lodge. I can’t even begin to describe how beautiful it was. And so nice to be on the beach. We spent a lot of this time walking the beach this day, and had a lovely dinner at Brett’s Waterway Café.
